Impaired driving remains the top criminal cause of death in Canada, according to Halton police, despite years of awareness campaigns illustrating why driving a vehicle while impaired by alcohol and/or drugs is dangerous.

In an effort to bring more attention to the risk of driving while impaired, assist in identifying witnesses and reduce continued offences, Halton police are reporting the following impaired driving-related incidents across Oakville, Burlington, Milton, and Halton Hills:


Name: Peter Cerka, 71, of Milton
Date/Time: April 19, 2018, before 12:30 p.m.
Location: Halton police initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Thompson Rd. and Steeles Ave. E. in Milton.

Charge:
* Impaired driving – over 80 mgs


Name: Michael Oliver, 50, of Caledon
Date/Time: April 20, 2018, shortly before 1:45 a.m.
Location: Halton police responded to a collision in the area of Appleby Line and the QEW in Burlington.

Charge:
* Driving while ability impaired


Name: Ronald Tratechaud, 64, of Oakville
Date/Time: April 18, 2018, shortly before 8 p.m.
Location: Halton police responded to the area of Neyagawa Blvd. and Burnhamthorpe Rd. W. in Oakville in response to a citizen-initiated traffic complaint.

Charges:
* Driving while ability impaired
* Impaired driving – over 80 mgs


Name: Mark Riopel, 41, of Georgetown
Date/Time: April 19, 2018, shortly after 1 a.m.
Location: Halton police were conducting a mobile R.I.D.E. initiative in the area of Mountainview Rd. S. and Eden Place in Halton Hills.

Charges:
* Driving while ability impaired
* Impaired driving – over 80 mgs


Name: Syed Azhar, 18, of Brampton
Date/Time: April 17, 2018, shortly after 10:30 a.m.
Location: Halton police responded to the area of Baylis Court and Scott Blvd. in Milton in response to a citizen-initiated traffic complaint.

Name: Daniele Demichele, 57, of Oakville
Date/Time: April 17, 2018, shortly after 3:45 p.m.
Location: Halton police responded to the area of Kerr St. and Speers Rd. in Oakville in response to a citizen-initiated traffic complaint.

Name: R-Steven Rusk, 63, of Oakville
Date/Time: April 17, 2018, shortly after 5 p.m.
Location: Halton police responded to the area of Postridge Dr. and Oak Walk Dr. in Oakville in response to a citizen-initiated traffic complaint.

Date/Time: April 17, 2018, shortly after 9:30 p.m.
Location: Halton police were conducting a mobile R.I.D.E. initiative in the area of Speers Rd. and Kerr St. in Oakville.

Name: Andrew Gallacher, 82, of Burlington
Date/Time: April 17, 2018, shortly after 10:30 p.m.
Location: Halton police initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Mountainside Dr. and Tavistock Dr. in Burlington.

Name: Kelly Meldrum, 50, of Burlington
Date/Time: April 17, 2018, shortly before 11 p.m.
Location: Halton police initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Fairview St. and Appleby Line in Burlington.

Name: Hamid Yazdiani, 54, of Oakville
Date/Time: April 16, 2018, shortly after 8 p.m.
Location: Halton police officers responded to a parking lot in the area of Upper Middle Rd. and Fourth Line in Oakville in response to a citizen-initiated traffic complaint.

Date/Time: April 16, 2018, shortly before 10:30 p.m.
Location: Halton police were conducting a mobile R.I.D.E. initiative in the area of Appleby Line and Upper Middle Rd. in Burlington.

Date/Time: April 17, 2018 shortly before 3 a.m.
Location: Halton police initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Upper Middle Rd. E. and Eighth Line in Oakville.

Date/Time: April 13, 2018, shortly before 9 p.m.
Location: Halton police initiated a traffic stop near the intersection of Maple Ave. and Woodward Ave. in Milton.

Date/Time: April 14, 2018, shortly after 1:30 p.m.
Location: Halton police responded to a collision in the area of Cornwall Rd. and Dunvegan Dr. in Oakville.

Officers remain committed to road safety through prevention, education and enforcement initiatives, police say.

Members of the public are reminded that driving under the influence of drugs and/or alcohol is a crime in progress and to call 911 immediately to report a suspected impaired driver.
