A 17-year-old is facing stunt driving charges for driving his mom’s Camaro 53 km/h over the posted speed limit on the Red Hill Valley Parkway Tuesday afternoon, police say.

Investigators say the 2011 Chevrolet Camaro was clocked going 143 km/h in a 90 km/h zone in the northbound lanes of the Red Hill shortly before 2:30 p.m.

The teen was pulled over, and the officer identified the driver as having a G2 licence. The owner of the car — his mother — was notified, and she is responsible for towing and impound charges, police say. The car has been impounded for seven days.

The teen’s licence was seized at the scene, and he now faces a week-long licence suspension as well as a forthcoming court date.

Police say a stunt driving conviction comes with a driver’s licence suspension of up to two years, seven demerit points and a fine between $2,000 and $10,000.
