A driver has serious injuries after a crash involving two transport trucks on Highway 401 in Milton.

Ontario provincial police were called the scene on the eastbound 401 near Trafalgar Road around 10:30 a.m. on Thursday. The eastbound lanes were closed.

The westbound lanes were temporarily closed at Highway 407 for an air ambulance.

This was the second of two crashes that occurred on the same stretch of the 401 over a two-hour span. It appears this crash may have resulted from slowed traffic from the earlier one.

Around 8:15 a.m., passenger vehicles and transport trucks were involved in a crash occurred on near Winston Churchill Boulevard.

OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said that crash involved passenger vehicles and transport trucks.

“Two vehicles with pretty significant damage, two tractor trucks with pretty significant damage and a few other vehicles with minor damage,” he said.

Amazingly, no one was seriously injured in the crash, which saw debris scattered across all eastbound lanes of the highway.

“Two people taken to hospital with just roughly minor injuries but we’ve got a significant amount of debris and damage here on the roadway,” Schmidt said.

All eastbound lanes of Highway 401 were blocked at Winston Churchill but two left lanes reopened around 10:20 .m.

It appears the second crash may have resulted from slowed traffic from the earlier crash.
