Guelph police are reminding the public about the dangers of texting and driving after issuing six distracted driving tickets in the span of an hour.

The slew of tickets were issued on Wednesday, just after 11 a.m. On top of the distracted driving tickets, officers also handed out a ticket for someone not wearing a seatbelt.

In a news release on Thursday, police said a driver using a phone is four times more likely to crash than a driver focusing on the road.

A distracted driving ticket comes with a fine of $490 and three demerit points, officers said.
