A 22-year-old Burlington man was killed in a single vehicle crash at Walkers Line and Britannia Road Saturday morning.

Police reported at approximately 3:45 a.m., a white 2010 Volkswagen Golf was driving north on Walkers Line through the intersection at Britannia Road.

“The vehicle failed to negotiate the curve and went airborne off of the embankment, it subsequently crashed into the ground a distance below,” said police in a release.

Pylons in the area seem to indicate the car was travelling northbound on Walkers, with tire tracks going over a nearby hill and through a wooded area.

The incident was reported by a passing motorist around 6 a.m., according to police — investigators responded to the scene, followed by a coroner.

Efforts of emergency crews to revive the sole male driver — who had been ejected by the crash — were unsuccessful and he was pronounced dead at the scene.

The Halton Regional Police Collision Reconstruction Unit arrived and took over the investigation.

The area was closed off and held by police for approximately five hours for the at-scene collision investigation.

Witnesses or anyone with information regarding the collision are asked to call the Collision Reconstruction Unit at 905 825-4747, ext. 5065, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-TIPS (8477), online at www.haltoncrimestoppers.com, or by texting “Tip201” with your message to 274637 (crimes).
