Oakville Mayor Rob Burton has been re-elected chair of the Halton Regional Police Services Board for 2016.

The seven-member civilian board, that oversees the Halton Regional Police Service, voted Thursday to elect its chair and vice chair for the year.

Registered nurse Marion Yee re-elected as vice chair for 2016. This will be Burton’s third term as chair and Yee’s second term as vice chair.

Burton has served on the police services board since 2010 and was first elected chair in 2014.

He is in his third term as Oakville’s mayor following his re-election to that position in 2014.

“I think the board has a lot of very important work ahead of us.” Burton said. “In the Province of Ontario, this is a year where the government is going to be bringing forward changes to the Police Act for the first time in more than 25 years.”

Yee, a Burlington resident, was first appointed to the board by the province in 2010.

“I’m honoured to do this and, as Mayor Burton said, there is a lot of work ahead of us. It is very interesting times with the upcoming changes. I am looking forward to working with everybody.”
