Three teens have been charged after they were driving recklessly wearing clown masks and attempting to scare bystanders.

On Friday, October 14, 2016, at approximately 3:30 p.m., officers from Central East Division responded to the area of Simcoe Street North and Taunton Road in Oshawa regarding a suspicious vehicle. Witnesses called police after observing a grey Saturn with three occupants, all of them wearing clown masks, stopping near other cars and pedestrians in a dangerous manner. The two masked passengers in the car were spotted opening the car doors and attempting to scare others and leaning out the car windows while the car was moving.

Officers stopped the car and charged the three occupants under a City of Oshawa bylaw.

A 19-year-old male from Oshawa is charged with Cause a Nuisance and Careless Driving.

A 19-year-old male and an 18-year-old female, both from Oshawa, are charged with: Cause a Nuisance.

Since the beginning of this month, DRPS has responded to 31 calls regarding clowns. Police continue to encourage the public to call in any suspicious activity. Those who partake in this activity can face fines under local bylaws and may be opening themselves to criminal charges.
