Thunder Bay Police Service
Police, Fire and EMS responded to a single motor vehicle collision yesterday morning at about 6:30 a.m at the intersection of Dawson Road at Shirley Road.

An eastbound tractor-trailer unit had been driven off the road and into the south side ditch. Both the 50 year old male driver and his male passenger were transported to T.B.R.H.S.C. with minor injuries.

The tractor unit struck a tree, and officers believe that the passenger might have been fatally injured had he not been in the sleeper at the time of the collision.

The driver has been charged with Careless Driving.

The highway was closed for approximately two hours yesterday morning but has since been re-opened to traffic. The highway was partially closed again when the unit was removed from the ditch later in the day.
