Grey County OPP recently arrested and charged a woman for impaired driving after she left a child on the side of the road.

The woman, a resident of Mississauga, had more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system and two children in the car with her.

On June 14, officers were called to assist after receiving a report of a female driver who had stopped her vehicle on Grey Road 14 in Southgate, leaving behind a seven-year-old boy standing at the side of the road.

She then continued driving northbound on Grey Road 14.

Police located the suspect vehicle, a 2015 Kia Sorento, stopped in the middle of the road on Grey Road 14 near Southgate Road 12 with the driver passed out over the steering wheel. A bottle of alcohol was observed next to the driver. The vehicle was carrying a five-year-old female passenger. There were no physical injuries reported.

The driver, who had been drinking alcohol, was taken to hospital by ambulance as a precaution due to her level of intoxication. She was released from hospital and taken to the OPP detachment for breath tests, which she failed, having more than three times the legal limit of alcohol in her system.

A 37-year-old woman from Mississauga was charged with care and control of a motor vehicle while impaired, care and control of a motor vehicle over 80 mgs; and fail to provide necessaries of life – child.

She is scheduled to appear in court in Owen Sound on July 14.
