Police are searching for a driver who sped away through a Mountain neighbourhood after officers tried to stop her for not wearing a seatbelt.

Police tried to stop the driver at Upper Paradise and Stone Church Road Wednesday around 3:30 p.m. but she didn’t stop and headed south toward Rymal Road.

The Chevrolet Impala was spotted cutting off another vehicle, weaving around a stopped school bus and then losing control, police alleged Thursday.

The Chevy then hopped onto a sidewalk, drove over someone’s front yard close to where children were trying to cross the street.

The driver managed to regain control and drove into a subdivision south of Rymal Road and Upper Paradise, police said.

Police say the officers didn’t chase the Chevy because there were many pedestrians, including children just out of school for the day, in the area.

Police, who are still investigating the incident, describe the driver as female with dark hair.
