A man is facing several charges after causing a T-bone crash while speeding away from police officers early Saturday, Hamilton police say.

The incident happened just after police attempted a traffic stop in the area of Barton and Lottridge streets just after 12:30 a.m. Saturday, Staff Sgt. Michelle Wiley said.

The man who was driving refused to stop, and then took off, she said. The officer didn’t give chase as it wasn’t safe, she said. Not long after, the car T-boned another car in the intersection at Barton and Ottawa.

“The female driver that the driver hit sustained minor injures,” Wiley said.

The man who was fleeing police got out and ran, police say, but he was arrested a block away on Ottawa Street North, near Argyle Avenue.

Police say the man was driving while disqualified.

He now faces several charges, including failing to stop for police and driving while disqualified.
