In a release, Greater Sudbury Police said the single-vehicle accident occurred at 1:30 a.m. on Bancroft Drive near Lonsdale Avenue.

Police said the driver, a 20-year-old man, was speeding towards The Kingsway at the time of the crash.

“At some point just before Lonsdale Avenue, the vehicle left the road and struck a mailbox, which ultimately caused it to flip over and land on its, roof demolishing the vehicle,” police said.

The driver and his two passengers, an 18-year-old woman and a 19-year-old man, were taken to Health Sciences North.

The driver and the woman were treated for their injuries and released. However, the male passenger suffered serious injuries.

The driver was charged with impaired driving causing bodily harm, failing a breath test and causing bodily harm, and being a novice driver with a blood alcohol concentration above zero.

Police did not release the driver’s name.
