A man was disoriented but not significantly injured after flipping his vehicle and knocking a light post over into the road on First Street North early this morning, police say.

Breath tests later showed he had a blood-alcohol level more than double the legal limit.

Officers were on patrol shortly after 3 a.m. when they happened across the crash, between Veterans Way and Ross Avenue on First Street North. They say it looks like the the man was headed north in the vehicle when he lost control and struck a light post in the east ditch, knocking it across the road.

They found the man still inside the overturned vehicle, and he appeared impaired as well as being disoriented. Although not significantly injured, he was taken to hospital for some treatment and was then taken to the police station for a breathalyzer.

A 34-year-old man was charged with impaired driving and drive over .08; he was released into the care of a responsible person, and is to appear in court on Dec. 1

A second northbound vehicle also ran into the post while it was lying across the road, police say.
