A Durham Regional Transit bus operator is facing impaired driving charges after she rear-ended another vehicle while attempting to change lanes in Pickering on Wednesday afternoon.

Police say the bus was travelling westbound on Kingston Road near Whites Road at around 4:30 p.m. when it attempted to change lanes to let a passenger off and rear-ended a white SUV in the process.

The driver of the SUV was not injured in the collision nor were the 14 passengers on board the bus.

According to police, a subsequent investigation located an open liquor container near the driver’s seat.

The driver was then arrested and taken to West Division to provide breath samples, police say.

Kirstin Hasted, 39, of Cobourg, is charged with impaired operation and failure to provide a breath sample.
