Nearly 20 traffic tickets were given out in a two-hour period at one Guelph intersection over the weekend.

On Saturday, Oct. 20, Guelph police’s C Platoon conducted a two-hour traffic enforcement blitz on Imperial Road at Massey Road. Over those two hours, police issued 18 tickets for speeding, carrying an insecure load and, in one case, for unnecessary noise after a burnout was done directly in front of police.

Police say the blitz was done in response to vehicles “driving aggressively on the detour created by the closure of the Hanlon Expressway at Woodlawn Road.”

The Hanlon between Speedvale Avenue and Woodlawn has been closed since Oct. 9, and will remain closed through to the end of the year.

“Guelph police would like to remind the public that construction will be ongoing for several months in this area,” the news release from GPS concludes.

“Please plan accordingly, reduce speed in construction zones and drive safely in the changing road conditions. And remember, road safety starts with you.”
