A routine traffic stop turned into a potentially dangerous situation after a number of weapons were found in a vehicle on Lancaster in Kitchener Sunday.

Waterloo Regional Police say they stopped the vehicle at 4am and when they approached the car, one man was reclined in his seat, had rolled on to his stomach and was fidgeting with something under him.

When he was removed from the car, a knife was found where he was sitting.

Police searched the vehicle and found a handgun, a small amount of drugs, along with a stolen crossbow.

The crossbow was stolen from a home near Owen Sound.

A 39-year-old Harriston man and a 35-year-old Stratford man are facing a number of weapon and drug charges.
