Niagara Regional Police say they arrested a 19-year-old Hamilton man who fled from a stolen SUV after it was driven into a curb, bursting one of its tires.

On Monday, uniform officers on patrol in the area of Ferry and Ellen streets saw an SUV travelling at a high rate of speed in the casino tourist area and decided to follow it.

While following the vehicle, an officer determined the vehicle may have been stolen.

Following a brief pursuit, the driver lost control and struck a curb, causing the rear passenger tire to burst. All four occupants of the SUV fled on foot.

Officers created a perimeter for a canine track, leading to the arrest of one male.

Tyler Smith, 19, has been charged with possession of property obtained by crime.
