A 23-year-old man had his Mercedes Benz impounded, his licence suspended and is charged with stunt driving after being caught travelling more than 165 kilometres an hour on the Red Hill Valley Parkway.

Hamilton police say the car was first spotted shortly after 2:30 a.m. Thursday speeding on the southbound Red Hill at Greenhill Avenue and was stopped north of the Mud Street exit ramp.

The parkway has a speed limit of 90 km/h.

The 23-year-old driver is charged with stunt driving (for speeding more than 50 km/h over limit), speeding and failing to have an insurance card.

His car has been impounded and driver’s licence suspended for a week.

A stunt driving conviction allows the courts to fine a driver between $2,000 and $10,000, suspend a driver’s licence for up to two years and impose seven demerit points.
