Hamilton police have charged two men after they allegedly ran from a stolen SUV.

Around 5 p.m. Sunday police spotted a 2011 Kia Soul SUV stopped at the intersection of Huron Street and Sanford Avenue North. The vehicle drew police attention after it sat at the stop sign “for an extended period of time,” police said.

When police searched the licence plate the vehicle came up as stolen from out of town. When police approached, the occupants allegedly ran from the SUV, but were captured a short time later.

They were allegedly in possession of drugs, police said.

Michael Benoit, 35, of Hamilton is charged with possession of hydromorphone, possession of stolen property over $5,000, possession of stolen property under $5,000 and breach of probation.

Allan Allan, 30, of no fixed address is charged with possession of cocaine.

The investigation is ongoing.
