Highway 401 re-opened after transport truck fire

One westbound lane in Lakeshore had been closed for more than seven hours

Highway 401 between County Road 42 and Highway 77 is now clear, according to the Essex OPP.

One westbound lane had been closed in Lakeshore to remove debris after a transport truck carrying paper products caught fire Monday morning.

Around 5 a.m., Essex OPP tweeted all lanes had been blocked temporarily due to vehicle fire on the shoulder.

Motorists were asked to use the Emergency Detour Route as an alternate.

Provincial Constable Jim Root said the driver was taken to hospital for smoke inhalation.
