Provincial police had to chase down a suspected drunk driver Wednesday after he allegedly got into a car crash then fled on foot.
Essex County OPP said the two-vehicle crash occurred around 6 p.m. at County Road 31 and County Road 14 in Leamington.
Officers were told that the driver of one of the vehicles fled on foot into a nearby field. When they tracked him down a short distance from the crash he appeared to be drunk, police said.
The people in the other vehicle were treated at hospital for minor injuries.
Michael Kreibich, 47, of Lakeshore, is charged with impaired operation of a motor vehicle and refusing to provide a breath sample.
