A 17-year-old girl has been charged with drunk driving after allegedly trying to avoid a RIDE checkpoint.

Lakeshore OPP officers were stopping cars around 2 a.m. Sunday on County Road 22 near West Puce Road when a red Jeep approached.

Police said the Jeep braked abruptly and turned before the RIDE checkpoint in an effort to “evade” officers. They stopped the vehicle, which had five people inside, a short distance away.

Police said there was a strong smell of alcohol coming from inside the Jeep. Officers subjected the driver to a roadside test, which she allegedly failed.

Officers arrested her on the spot. Police said they also found alcohol inside the vehicle.

The 17-year-old Lakeshore girl is charged with exceeding 80 milligrams blood alcohol content. Police didn’t release her name.
