Ontario Provincial Police say the man was slowly driving north in the southbound lanes of the highway, narrowly avoiding oncoming traffic.
Police say he appeared to be disoriented when he was stopped.
Along with the charge, the man’s licence will be reviewed by the Ministry of Transportation.
It was the second wrong-way infraction the OPP was forced to deal with on Christmas Day.
Earlier that morning, a driver was stopped and charged after going the wrong way on the Queen Elizabeth Way near Fort Erie.
“Christmas saved!” tweeted out OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt. “Driver stopped and charged, thankfully before a collision that could have been deadly.”
