A Hamilton man has been charged in connection with a bomb scare aboard a GO Transit bus.

The OPP say the bus was travelling on Highway 407 in Milton around nine o’clock Saturday morning when the driver called police to report there might be an explosive device aboard the vehicle.

The bus pulled over (between Derry Road and Britannia Road) and the highway was shutdown.

The OPP, Peel Region and Halton Region police deployed tactical teams, including a bomb disposal unit.

After a brief negotiation with a suspect on the bus OPP spokesman Sgt. Kerry Schmidt says the bus driver and about 20 passengers were safely evacuated from the vehicle.

Schmidt said 28-year old Justin Roache was arrested without incident a short time later and was charged with mischief.

The bus was searched but no explosives were found, and the highway was reopened late in the afternoon.
