Durham Regional Police are calling Lindsay a hero for reporting the suspected impaired driver, which lead to an arrest and charges.
In a tragic twist, the Oshawa man became the victim of another alleged drunk driver several hours later.
The two-vehicle crash happened on Salem Road near the Highway 401 underpass around 3:15 a.m. on Monday.
Const. George Tudos said a Paragon Security vehicle was exiting the highway when it was struck by the second vehicle.
Lindsay was driving the security vehicle. He was rushed to hospital where he later died.
The woman driving the other vehicle has been identified as Melanie St. Louis, 42 of Kingston. She suffered minor injuries in the crash.
She has been charged with impaired driving causing death.
OPP Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said since the launch of the holiday R.I.D.E. campaign on Thursday, provincial police have laid 21 impaired driving charges.
