TORONTO – A dump truck driver who crashed his rig into the Burlington Skyway’s steel girders in July faces several new charges, police say.

Sukhvinder Singh Rai, 34, of Brampton, Ont., was originally charged with impaired driving, and now faces five additional charges including dangerous driving, mischief endangering life, and three counts of criminal negligence causing bodily harm.

Singh allegedly drove the truck – with its long dump bucket raised in the air – through the bridge’s mesh of overhead metal support beams and scaffolding on July 31, closing down the Toronto-bound lanes through the August long weekend.

The crash also injured three people and damaged several vehicles, police said.

Skyway is located southwest of Toronto and connects Burlington and Hamilton.
