Don’t text behind the wheel; got the message?

Attractive Blonde Woman Text Messaging on Her Cell Phone While Driving.

Everybody knows that texting and driving is dangerous and in most places illegal. Or maybe not. The many new ads from around the world, and the alarming number of casualties despite more severe laws being put in place, suggest that some people still fail to remember the deadly consequences this form of distracted driving can have.

Auto123.com has scoured the web to find some of the most shocking and/or effective ad campaigns to prevent the use of a cell phone behind the wheel. Actually, car drivers are not the only ones to blame: people who send text messages to someone they know is currently driving are just as guilty. Even pedestrians shouldn’t be texting while walking down or crossing the street.

And if you think young drivers are mostly at fault, you’d be surprised to see how many older folks happily text their friends and family members when behind the wheel, putting themselves and other road users in danger.

Don’t text someone you know is currently driving
McCann Mexico has created an eye-opening ad for Chevrolet. The lesson? If you knowingly send a text message to someone who is currently driving, you immediately pose a risk possibly leading to distracted driving.

Even the shortest text can put someone’s life in danger
In this video produced by TranterGrey Media in collaboration with WJBF News Channel 6, a young woman is texting and driving on a collision course with another vehicle. She and the other driver stop and argue about whether they can avoid the unavoidable. What ensues next will leave you speechless.

Don’t forget to set a good example
Assureurs Prévention asks the question: How do you make your kids realize that using a cell phone behind the wheel is dangerous? There’s no miracle solution, but you can start by setting a good example when you’re driving with them on board.

Life is not a game, and you can’t start over
The Warp Zone, in collaboration with the U.S. National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), has released a funny, lighter ad to remind car drivers that life isn’t a video game. There is no reset button.
