Keep in mind this new traffic law that went into effect on January 1, 2016 for the province of Ontario.

Drivers must now yield the ENTIRE road to pedestrians crossing the road at a crossover. Up until now, drivers have been legally able to proceed once the pedestrian was out of their path. This new rule only applies to pedestrian crossovers with button activated overhead lights and ALL school crossings. Crosswalks at light-controlled intersections remain unaffected.

For clarification, this is a crossover:

Drivers must yield for pedestrians at crossovers such as the one pictured above. Crosswalks at a normal intersection remain unaffected.
