Const. Lauren Ball said the officer was struck and dragged down the highway during an interaction with a driver.

The officer is now recovering and in stable condition, Ball said Tuesday afternoon. Toronto paramedics said the officer was originally rushed to hospital with serious, but non-life-threatening injuries.

The driver of the vehicle fled the scene. Police are looking for a dark-coloured sports car.

All southbound lanes of Highway 400 at Finch were closed for several hours, but have since reopened.
