An OPP blitz dubbed Operation Safe Trucking earlier this month resulted in 25 charges in Sarnia-Lambton against commercial vehicle drivers, Lambton OPP say.

There were 13 speeding charges, seven more for following too close, two seatbelt-related charges, two distracted driving charges, and one charge related to not moving over for an emergency vehicle.

The provincial blitz included police investigating 78 commercial vehicles in Sarnia-Lambton, OPP said.

Across Ontario there were 6,252 transport truck-related collisions Jan. 1 to Dec. 8, this year, police said. There were 87 deaths related to 72 of those collisions.

The OPP will continue to work with the Ministry of Transportation and the Ontario Trucking Association to assist in keeping roads safe, police said.
