A 46-year-old Ottawa man is facing impaired driving, flight from police and dangerous driving charges after police allege he led them on a drunken chase in a stolen car early Monday in Hull.
The first thing that drew Gatineau police officers’ attention about an idling car stopped on Maisonneuve Boulevard early Monday morning was that the driver’s side window was open in frigid temperatures.
When they talked to the driver at about 2:30 a.m., he showed signs of being impaired by alcohol but he refused to cooperate with police so they opened the door and ordered him out. Instead, the man drove off and got on the ramp to highways 5 and 50 at Sacré-Coeur Boulevard, with officers in pursuit.
The man then ditched the car and started walking away along Highway 5 where he was arrested.
He was taken to the police station for a breath test and interview and police also discovered that the vehicle had been stolen in Ottawa.
The unidentified man was scheduled to appear in court Monday on charges which also included receiving stolen property.
