Police had to go deep into the bush Monday to arrest a Kitchener man, 28, found asleep in his smashed-up car on railway tracks.

The driver, not injured, is charged with drunk driving.

It happened around 7:15 a.m. The vehicle was found blocking the CP Railway tracks in the vicinity of Balzer Road and Manitou Drive.

The car, a black 2011 Nissan Altima, had extensive damage to its front, leading police to conclude that it may have been involved in an earlier collision.

Waterloo Regional Police don’t know how the car ended up so far along the tracks.

“It appears he drove quite a distance,” Staff Sgt. Terri Turner said. “We had a lot of trouble finding him.” A construction worker who called police after finding the car had to direct officers to it.

Anyone with information is asked to call police at 519-653-7700 or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477.
