A woman faces drunk driving charges after a driver drove into a swamp in Rideau Lakes Township early Saturday morning.

At 1:20 a.m., Leeds County Ontario Provincial Police officers were called to a collision after a driver failed to stop at a stop sign on County Road 5, crossed Highway 15 and drove into a swamp.

Olivia Makarenko, 25, of Smiths Falls, was charged with impaired driving and with driving with more than 80 mgs. of alcohol in her blood, said police.

She is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, Provincial Division in Brockville on May 11 to answer to her charges.

Leeds OPP made a second impaired-driving arrest later Saturday.

In Elizabethtown-Kitley Township at 4:20 p.m., Kevin Hutton, 52, was arrested after a traffic incident on County Road 2.

He faces charges of impaired driving and driving with more than 80 mgs of alcohol in his blood. He is scheduled to appear at the Ontario Court of Justice, Provincial Division in Brockville on May 11, 2018.

Both drivers had their vehicles towed and impounded.

Suspected shoplifter arrested

Brockville police arrested a 20-year-old man Monday and charged him in connection with a shoplifting incident at a north-end store. He was charged and released with a future court date.

Motorcycle recovered

A 2017 Beta dirt bike reported stolen Monday was recovered by Cornwall police, who arrested a suspect, Brockville police reported Tuesday.

Motor vehicle collisions

Despite the nice weather, the Brockville Police Service investigated five motor vehicle collisions on Monday. There were no serious injuries reported.
