A cropped side view of a Barrie Police car.Police spotted a car driving through a red light at Hart Drive onto Dunlop St., West and then south on Anne Street just before midnight on Wednesday.

Officers made a U-turn to pull the car over, but the driver sped away at a high rate of speed and ran another red light.

Police didn’t pursue the car but saw the vehicle driving recklessly, speeding through several intersections as it continued southbound on Essa Road.

A short time later, a concerned citizen called police about an abandoned vehicle and a suspicious man on Allsop Street.

Police located the vehicle, which was a rental car, and deployed the canine unit who were able to locate the man in the backyard of a home on Mapleton Ave.

A 31-year-old man of no fixed address, was arrested and charged with flight from police and dangerous operation of a motor vehicle.

During their investigation, police seized a quantity of cocaine and determined the man was disqualified from driving for previous charges of dangerous flight from police.

He was also charged with operating a vehicle with disqualified and possession of a controlled substance.
