radar speed gunIn the Hamilton/Burlington area, the number of speeding tickets handed out by police has doubled, from 230 in July 2014 to 460 in July of 2015. But does that mean that the number of irresponsible drivers has doubled or are police just doubling tax collection? The issue has been debated with the Alberta Integrated Police Traffic Unit where they promised sometime ago to no longer suggest police “fishing holes” established to generate speeding tickets exist. The Hamilton/Burlington numbers have us revisiting the issue.

Do police hide cruisers in areas which invite speeding on purpose? Are police being turned into tax collectors?

Lance Chalmers. Sheriff of the Alberta Integrated Traffic Unit discusses.
