Police stopped traffic on a major Mississauga roadway when a cat ran out into traffic and got stuck near the median.

The runaway feline ran onto the eastbound lanes of the Queen Elizabeth Way, just west of Cawthra Road, shortly before 9 a.m. The cat was stuck near the median with high speed traffic on either side.

Provincial police were called to the scene, and stopped traffic in an effort to capture the four-legged fugitive.

The cat was pursued by a member of animal services armed with a net, but managed to escape.

After it ran off, all lanes were reopened.
