A two-year closure of a section of Fountain Street in Cambridge is two weeks away from starting.

The affected section will be between the Blair Road roundabout and Linden Drive (formerly Limerick Road), as crews spend the next two years replacing the bridge over the Grand River.

Fountain will also be rebuilt between Blair Road and Shantz Hill Road, with left-turn lanes and a multi-use trail among the most noticeable changes.

Residents in the area have been told that the construction is expected to be finished by the end of September 2018.

The recommended detour for drivers is to use Highway 401 and Shantz Hill Road to bypass the bridge. Cyclists and pedestrians will be able to get through the construction zone.

Work on the section of Fountain between Linden and Shantz Hill is not expected to start until April 2018.
