Three 20-year-old Hamilton men face several weapons charges after police stopped their car for a traffic violation and discovered a shotgun inside.

Police say officers were directly behind a SUV at Upper Wellington Street and Limeridge Road when they saw the vehicle go through a red light and stopped it.

When the officers spoke with the driver about the traffic infraction, they noticed a passenger wearing a sweater and had gloves on his lap. This appeared suspicious because of the hot weather. Police also saw a wig on the floor that the passenger was trying to conceal with his feet.

When police questioned all three men, one of them told them about the shotgun in the back seat.

Police discovered a shotgun on the floor, a plastic baggie with three shotgun shells inside, two plastic masks and a wig.

The men were taken to the Mountain police station where they revealed the items were related to an earlier unreported assault.

Charged with unauthorized possession of a firearm along with several other weapons charges related to the shotgun are Jan Balca, Imran Malik, and Mark Sundram.

Police are asking with information about this crime to contact Detective Const. Kim Milne at 905-546-2377. Or, to anonymously call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-222-8477 or go to crimestoppershamilton.com
