The RCMP were asking drivers to avoid the Sir John A. Macdonald Parkway, particularly around the Champlain Bridge area, after an early evening crash tied up traffic.

Details were sketchy, but police said at least one person was hurt after a single-vehicle crash on the parkway just west of the Champlain Bridge shortly after 5 p.m. that snarled traffic along the parkway and Island Park Drive.

Police said they had the traffic under control but would still urge drivers to avoid the area.

Ottawa Paramedics said the 54-year-old man crashed his vehicle as the result of “medical condition”. He was taken to hospital.
