Over October 200 drivers earned $495 fines and lost three demerit points for distracted driving

Officers from the Southern Georgian Bay detachment of the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) on traffic patrol throughout the detachment patrol area in North Simcoe did pay attention to distracted drivers during their shifts over the month of October, 2018.

During their shifts they stopped and investigated numerous drivers for the offence of Drive Hand Held Communications Device contrary to section 78.1 (1) of the Highway Traffic Act of Ontario.

These stops resulted in 200 drivers being charged with the offence which currently carries a $490 fine and three demerit points upon conviction.
