A teenager is in critical condition after two pedestrians were struck by a pickup truck while walking across a downtown street.

Two 19-year-old women were crossing the intersection of Wilson Street at Hughson Street North when they were hit by a westbound pickup truck Saturday at 12:45 p.m.

Both were taken to hospital. One has life-threatening injuries and remained in critical condition at Hamilton General Hospital Sunday. The other has less serious injuries, including a broken leg.

The driver of the truck was uninjured and cooperated with police at the scene.

Preliminary investigation revealed speed and alcohol are not factors in this collision.

Police closed off the intersection for the investigation while clothes and debris remained on the road where the pedestrians were struck.

Any witnesses are asked to call Detective Constable Mathew Hewko of the Collision Reconstruction Unit at (905) 546-4755.
