A 17-year-old driver faces stunt-driving charges after police say they spotted him on the Red Hill Valley Parkway driving 156 km/h.

It happened around 2:30 a.m. Sunday. Hamilton police say officers noticed a Jeep going faster than 140 km/h, plateauing at 156 km, as it headed toward the Greenhill Avenue exit ramp.

Officers stopped the driver on the King Street exit ramp.

The driver only had a G2 driver’s licence, police say. Four other teens were in the vehicle, two of them 16 and two 17.

G2 drivers can only have one non-relative passenger between midnight and 5 a.m., police say.

Police have charged the teen with speeding, stunt driving, having too many passengers under 20, and driving a vehicle without a validated plate.

The driver’s licence is suspended for a week. His vehicle is impounded.
