Winter road conditions haven’t slowed these drivers down apparently.

OPP report that on Thursday at 3:40 p.m., North Bay OPP officers stopped a vehicle for stunt driving on Highway 17 on the Nipissing First Nation. The vehicle had been travelling more than 60 km/h over the posted speed limit.

Then on Saturday at 8:29 p.m., Powassan OPP officers stopped a vehicle for stunt driving on Highway 11 in Callander. The vehicle had been travelling more than 60 km/h over the posted speed limit.

But then the big one. Sunday at 2:20 a.m., officers, again from Powassan, stopped a vehicle for stunt driving on Highway 11 in Callander. The vehicle had been travelling at almost twice the posted speed limit of 100 km/h.

Three men, ages 19-25, have been charged with Stunt Driving. Their driver’s licences have been suspended for seven days and their vehicles seized for seven days.

Staff Sergeant Chris Summersby, Detachment Commander of the North Bay OPP, is “concerned about the time of day, excessive speed and the age of these drivers. Speeding and other forms of aggressive driving are dangerous behaviours and remain a leading cause of fatal motor vehicle collisions on OPP-patrolled roads.”

Last week, the North Bay OPP investigated numerous motor vehicle collisions involving deer.

“If one of these vehicles hit a deer while travelling at these high speeds, the outcome for the driver and passengers in the vehicles could have been fatal,” added Summersby.
