Saturday morning didn’t start off well for a man from Quebec.

On Saturday, Feb. 11, North Bay Ontario Provincial Police were advised on a traffic complaint shortly before 8 a.m., on Highway 63 in Poitras Township. The involved vehicle was said to be broken down on the shoulder of the road and that the driver was impaired. Officers attended the scene and as a result of the investigation, James Belland, 34, of Kipawa, Quebec was arrested and charged.

Charges include impaired driving, driving a motor vehicle with over 80 milligrams of alcohol in 100 milliliters of blood and possession of a schedule I substance, cocaine.

The accused was released on a promise to appear and is set to attend court in North Bay on March 7.

The OPP reminds drivers that any amount of alcohol or other drugs can impair one’s ability to drive. If you suspect that someone is driving or about to drive impaired, call 9-1-1 and report it.
