Police say a truck driver has been charged with careless driving after losing control of his tractor trailer on a major highway in Cambridge, Ont.

Provincial police say the incident happened during heavy rain at about 4 a.m., when the driver was unable to regain control of his truck.

Const. Lauren Ball says the truck went over the concrete median and into a ditch.

She says nobody was injured, but diesel fuel spilled onto the highway and the driver was charged.

Highway 401 was closed for several hours to repair the barrier and clean up the spill.
