If you need to renew your vehicle registration, you might experience some sticker shock.

Passenger vehicle sticker renewals in southern Ontario are increasing from $98 to $108, effective Sept. 1.

The increase represents a 20-per-cent hike since Aug. 31 of last year, when the rate was $90.

Fees for driver’s licences, renewals, replacements and commercial permits are also increasing.

The provincial Ministry of Transportation and Infrastructure says the changes support the recommendations of the Commission on the Reform of Ontario’s Public Services to cover the rising costs of maintaining provincial roads, bridges and highways, and to enhance cost recovery for the delivery of driver and vehicle licensing services.

Ontario has about 12.1 million registered vehicles.
