Two westbound lanes of Hwy. 401 were closed in Mississauga for much of the day yesteday after a truck fire earlier in the morning.

Toronto Fire Capt. Adrian Ratushniak said a tractor-trailer carrying peat moss struck a concrete barrier near Highway 427 at around 12:30 a.m. and caught fire.

Ratushniak said that a large amount of diesel leaked from the vehicle, which at one point was completely engulfed in flames.

The fire was extinguished shortly before 1:30 a.m.

Two westbound lanes of the highway were closed from Highway 427 to Renforth Drive.

Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said that to repair the roadway, it would take between six and eight hours. The OPP finally tweeted around 6 PM that all lanes were cleared.
