Another 13 motorists, including one who’s been arrested for the second time this month, were charged with drunk driving offences during the sixth week of the Durham police Festive RIDE campaign.

Officers working RIDE detail have laid 114 drunk driving charges during this year’s campaign, which concludes this weekend. After six weeks in last year’s campaign, 92 motorists had been charged with impaired driving.

During the week police stopped 926 vehicles and demanded 104 roadside breath tests. In addition to the impaired charges cops issued 17 three-day licence suspensions for drivers who registered a warning reading, and suspended one novice driver’s licence for 24 hours.

One driver arrested Dec. 27 in Whitby had been previously charged by the RIDE team after a stop Dec. 17 in Oshawa, police said. The man, whose name was not provided by police, had got his vehicle back from impoundment just days before being charged for the second time.
