A Windsor trucker is facing a careless driving charge after his tractor trailer went out of control on Highway 401 in the Chatham-Kent area.

The incident happened around 2 a.m. Tuesday in the westbound lanes of the highway near Dillon Road.

According to Ontario Provincial Police, the transport truck crashed through a guardrail and rolled onto its side, coming to rest on the embankment of a bridge.

The 50-year-old male driver of the truck — a Windsor resident — suffered minor injuries.

He has since been charged with careless driving under Ontario’s Highway Traffic Act.

The charge applies to those who drive without due care and attention, or without reasonable consideration for the safety of others. The maximum penalty is a $2,000 fine and six months jail, along with a licence suspension of up to two years.
