A woman seriously injured in a collision with a truck carrying industrial steel coils has been charged with impaired driving.

The car the woman was driving rear-ended the truck at the intersection of Ottawa Street North and Burlington Street East around 10:30 p.m. Friday. The accident happened just south of the ArcelorMittal Dofasco steel plant.

Paramedics took her to hospital after firefighters cut parts of the car away to free her.

Police say breath samples from the patient led them to lay impaired driving charges.

A Hamilton woman, 27, is charged with impaired driving and impaired driving over 80 mg.
